De Waag and Schreierstoren:
The Amsterdam Waag is a remnant of the former city walls in Amsterdam. Constructed in 1488, it was originally one of the city gates, the Sint Anthoniespoort. When the city wall disappeared, the Nieuwmarkt (new market) was created around it and the weighing scales for the market were placed in the former gate. Today the building houses the Waag Society, an ICT research foundation working in the social and cultural domain, and there is a cafe-restaurant on the ground floor.
Castle De Haar:
The origins of De Haar Caste can be found in the Middle Ages. The medieval house was founded in the 14th century. In the 15th century the castle was destroyed. The castle was rebuilt with its still existing pentagonal floor plan. During the 18th and 19th century the castle was abandoned and fell to ruin. The young owner baron Etienne van Zuylen van Nijevelt van de Haar acquired the ruin by inheritance in the late 19th century. He decided to rebuild and restore his ancestral home with grandeur. Baron Etienne gave the assignment to the famous Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers. Piere Cuypers was well known for the construction and design of Amsterdam Central Station, Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and more than 90 churches.
Muiderslot:
At a stone,s throw from Amsterdam, you will go back 700 years in time for a taste of real Dutch history. The imposing Muiderslot, which is part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam and included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is located at the former Zuiderzee, in the water-rich environments of the river Vecht.
